I was glad to see Pear Note come to the iPad. I was wondering what some early user thoughts are on it. Can I use an external microphone with it to improve the recording, or just the internal mic? I sometimes use a Blue Snowflake with the camera kit adapter and it works pretty good for what I want to do.

Lastly, I know that this is NOT what the app is all about, but bear with me. I'm just curious. Sometimes it's faster and more convenient to take hand-written notes on the iPad instead of tapping or using an external keyboard. Just wondering: Would the folks at Useful Fruit ever consider adding this functionality, or does it take you away from your core product? (Probably.) I have been using Twisted Wave on the iPad and either Upad or Noteshelf to take quality hand-written notes. I realize this defeats the purpose of Pear Note -- take notes, see where you are in the recording -- but sometimes I just want to jot down thoughts and have the recording as a backup, or maybe share it with someone else. One iPad app, Notes Plus, provides this functionality and even keeps track of which page you are on and where you are in the recording, but the handwriting is so clunky and slow the app is not useful.

    Anyway, any thoughts are appreciated.

    Keep up the great work.

You can use an external microphone. Some microphones draw too much power for the iPad, but if you've used a Snowflake with your iPad before, it should work fine with Pear Note. I've used a Blue Snowball with it just fine. Let me know how it goes if you don't mind.

As to hand-written notes - I can't say when or if this will happen, but I am definitely looking into adding drawing support. This would most likely be geared toward users who were still typing their notes, but wanted to occasionally draw something and have it inserted into those typed notes. For example, you may want to draw a diagram at some point and use it in Pear Note. No promises on this, but that's what I've started looking into. It'll likely be a while before this happens, though, as getting Pear Note working on the iPhone and getting Pear Note for Mac to exploit Lion better are much higher on the priority list right now.

    Hi sgaer:

I replied to your email already, but I'll copy my response here as well for anyone wondering.

Pear Note for iPad and for Mac both save documents in a custom file format, the .pearnote file format. You need Pear Note for Mac to view this on your Mac. The files you're seeing are actually inside the Pear Note document.

So, you need to download Pear Note for Mac to use the files on your Mac. You can get this from here or from the Mac App Store. Once you download and install it, your Mac will recognize the .pearnote format and Finder will show it to you as a proper document.

    I hope that helps.

@RyanCapouch - Just so everyone knows, I would flunk out of school if I didn't have @pearnote.
