From what I understand, pearnote basically creates a RTF and a audio file with times in the audio stuff was done in the RTF. While the core functionality of pearnote is great, the note editor for a lack of a better word sucks. While it gets the job done and does have functions like bold, italics, fonts, highlighting etc., the method to use them is not entirely user-friendly and is missing some core text features such as left, right or center. I'd suggest looking at text edit (the built in mac app) which is pretty much a text editer stripped down to as basic as possible, while still containing the core features and try to implement a menu bar similar (if not exactly the same) next to the recording buttons as it will make the program more "mac friendly" and add in the core note taking functionality to the app. As I said at the beginning, I know that mot of these features are already there, its just more of bringing them out from hiding into the open and making the app look a little nicer at the same time :)
Here's a screen shot of text edit

Now here's a quickly photoshoped version of how it could look in pear note. It may be just my opinion but I feel like the program looks more feature packed even if the actual new features aren't as many.

Just a suggestion. Obviously as the developer you can do whatever you want with the program.
