I think this is a great program but can the audio be exported and if so in a format that can be used in other programs or other platforms (read windows)? Thanks.

Proper export support is planned for a future version, but is not part of 1.0. However, you can work around this. If you have a saved Pear Note document, right-click or Ctrl-click on the document in Finder and select "Show Package Contents." Within the package, you'll see some files like "recording-0.mov", "recording-1.mov", etc. These are the recordings for the document, and should play fine within QuickTime on Mac or Windows (or anything else that has QuickTime). I hope that helps.

Thanks- files are there and playback works reasonably well although dbs are low from macbook mic. Like your boost-volume feature in the program to enhance distance voices.

Dalcorta,
As far as low DB, have you tried going into system prefrences and increasing the input volume from the built-in microphone?
I increased mine all the way, and while it picks up me typing, it's much easier to pick up distant voices (ie in class)

FYI, version 1.1 is now out and it includes support for exporting audio and video, as well as exporting the text as plain text or RTF files.
