It would be great to be able to take notes after an audio or video session has been recorded. This would be a great study tool. During a lecture or meeting, full attention could be given to what was going on, not worrying about taking notes. Then the recording could be replayed, and notes could be added then. Then for review, the notes could be used to jump to various parts of the recording. This would also eliminate the annoying keystroke sounds, which happens when typing during the recording.

Actually, you can do exactly that already with Pear Note. Just use Pear Note to record your audio or video and don't worry about taking notes. Later, play back your notes and click the lock at the bottom labeled "Unlock to modify text." Then, you can type your notes in as you listen to/watch the recording. All your keystrokes will be recorded just as if you had typed them during the original recording.

I do a lot of in-person interviews with my digital recorder. What I need to be able to do is IMPORT those audio files into your program and make notes/transcriptions. That capability is absolutely vital.
I've experimented, and a Radio Shack "Telephone Handset Recording Control" combined with a Griffin iMic unit will allow me tape phone interviews directly into my Mac (and your program). HOWEVER, while the same set-up will allow me to record my digital tape player's output to your program (not the most practical method), I CANNOT hear the audio as it's being recorded in order to make notes during playback/recording. Can you add that capability?

Support for importing audio and video has been the main feature requested so far. Barring any problems with implementation, I plan to add it to 1.1.
As far as monitoring audio coming from an external device goes, I'll look into that. Note that I believe you can do that currently if you use a product like Soundflower ( http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower ) or Audio Hijack Pro ( http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/ ). I've used Soundflower (and the associated Soundflowerbed) to do something quite similar.

If that is indeed the plan for 1.1, you've sold me. I will gladly skip the digital recorder step in doing phone interviews and just connect straight into my Mac via the configuration I described above.
I'll try Soundflower and Audio Hijack Pro for monitoring (and taking notes) on audio coming from external devices.

I can get a GarageBand file (created from digital recorder file) over to Pear, but can't hear it while it transfers/records. THAT'S the needed feature.

Yeah, Soundflower should be able to do that now. You just have GarageBand play to Soundflower, have Pear Note record from Soundflower, and use Soundflowerbed to send its output to your Built-in Output.

FYI, version 1.1 is now out and it does indeed include support for importing audio and video.

I'm having import trouble when importing m4a files recorded from my iPhone Voice Memo app. It will import, but as I playback, pause, take notes, etc., the audio will quit working and then there's nothing I can do to get it back. It gives an error "Error saving: One of the recording files is missing. This likely meant that something went wrong during recording at some point. Would you like to continue saving what can be saved, or abort saving" if I try to close out to restart. Since it doesn't save, the audio is lost.

Are you running an old version of Pear Note on Lion? This sounds like a bug with Pear Note versions prior to 2.1 on Lion. Make sure you update to the latest version (2.1).
