It would be usefull to be able to change the speed of the playback. Sometimes we have to rely a bit more on the audio than the text. But it's a bit anoying to listen to a slow speaker when you're looking for information... I've actually got into this habit from when I worked to digitize academic books for blind people. They usually "read" the books quite fast! It's surprising at first, but with a bit of practice it grows on us...

Thanks very much for the suggestion. I'll look into it.

I can't tell you how much I would value adjustable playback speed. Double speed is often quite comfortable, and for getting an overview or a refresher, 2.5x is just about comfortable for me.
In many situations I can learn BETTER with doublespeed playback. If there was ANYthing else that did what Pearnote does, the lack of this feature would be a dealbreaker for me (assuming that a competitor had it). It is a really powerful tool in audio learning. Here is this, for your interest:

Thanks for the feedback historian. I can tell you that I'm definitely looking into this. I can't promise anything, and it definitely won't happen for several months, but I am working on it.

I agree with historian. Double speed would make this program a gift from God. I'm at student a Harvard Medical School, and all the recorded lectures here have the option to be played at 2x to 3x with the software they use. I think everyone here just about plays them at 2.5x (noone here has time to rewatch lectures at 1x). Unfortunately if I use pearnote, I would not be able to play them at 2x speed. So there is a trade off between do I watch the lectures at 2x and not have features of pearnote, or do I use pearnote's awesome note taking capabilities but go through the painfully slow lecture. I wish I didn't have to make this trade off.
If I'm not mistaken, pearnote uses quicktime to play the videos. Quicktime itself has the ability to make the speed of the video faster (Quicktime > Window > A/V control > Playback Speed). This would be awesome if this can somehow be done in pearnote with the slides and text highlighting features jumping along with the increase playback speed in the program.

As you've likely all seen by now, Pear Note 2 has adjustable playback speed. Enjoy.

The older version that I have already has adjustable playback speed. So, if I finally update on my laptop, I'm going to lose adjustable playback speed, huh? I updated on my desktop, but it won't work with my older Notes from my laptop. So, I never investigated the new version yet. I want my old Notes to work on both my laptop and desktop. Also, I don't want to lose adjustable playback speed. I would almost want my money back if I can't get adjustable playback speed. The update doesn't seem like it would do anything for me. I'm sorry I put the new version on my desktop. However, it seemed like it would only load the new version when I first got into the app store on my new computer. I just emailed Chad about the trouble that I am experiencing trying to look at old Notes from my laptop. I try to open them on my desktop with the new version, and it says that the slides are invalid or corrupt. I really want this to work on both computers. Plus, I can't imagine not having at least 1.4x playback. Maybe if I can't get adjustable playback, I can be sent an old version for my desktop.

Sorry. I didn't look at how old this post is. Still having the "invalid slides" from one version to the update.

Yes, this is a very old post that led to Pear Note getting adjustable playback speed. Please ignore this post now, as it is no longer current.
I emailed you last night to help with your other questions.
