Hey there! I just discovered your site thru MacInTouch. I've recently purchased an iPad and am hoping to carry it to most meetings instead of my big ol' 17" MacBook Pro. The missing link is definitely good note-taking software. I've been looking for something that will record meetings; sync the audio with my notes; allow me to quickly take notes in multi-level indented outline form (that's how my brain works); and allow me to edit/expand the notes later at my leisure. So far, none of the iPad note-taking apps I've tried can do all of these things; so it looks like Pear Note for iPad would be the perfect solution. Please count me as interested, eager, and more than happy to beta test. Thanks!
Pear Note for iPad?

Are there any updates? Is there currently an iPad version in the works? I would buy and iPad just to use Pear Note!

There is an iOS version in the works. As I said earlier, I'm not going to estimate when it'll be done because I've proven I'm not very good at that.

This is going to be so cool - hopefully the iOS version is gonna support iPad2's backfacing (and front) camera :) and Dropbox integration.
I woud love to be a betatester, so count me in!

Yes that would be great if it incorporated the cameras.
Have an iPad2 if you need a beta tester.Posted 2 years ago # -
The initial version will not include video recording. I won't rule it out for future versions, but the ergonomics are weird. You have to hold it up the entire time you were taking notes, which makes it nearly impossible to actually type anything. You could use a stand, but it's still hard to type. The only situation I've found that can work is using a stand and a bluetooth keyboard. This can work (though you need to find a stand that positions it exactly right for the subject you want to video record), but I doubt there are too many people who would be willing to carry around a stand and a bluetooth keyboard.
I'd love to hear if you guys can think of uses that I'm not thinking of.

Hm, the only thing that comes to mind would be implementing keyboard shortcuts for those of us with bluetooth keyboards. I often go back through my notes and transcribe after the fact on SoundNote, and the painful part is that the scrubber is not fine enough -- with the "go back 30sec" feature that PearNote has along with a keyboard shortcut it could be a breeze. Or even just cmd left/right arrow to scrub 5 or 10 seconds at a time.
Can't wait!

When I have anatomy classes or palpation (chiropractic manipulations) it would be sweet if I could just hold up the iPad to record the procedure, and then just put it back in the stand for further typing. Anyhow, the onscreen keyboard is not for fast notetaking - so I for one would connect a bluetooth keyboard anyway.

I think with the Smart Cover propped up with the iPad 2 in the orientation generally recommended for viewing video, it is perfect for using a bluetooth keyboard and the video camera is in the perfect position to record lectures. Just my two cents :)

jfahim - Have you tried recording video with the iPad 2 propped up on the Smart Cover? The iPad tilts back slightly, meaning the camera is pointing down. So, much of the video is just the table the iPad is sitting on.

DKstud - Interesting. I hadn't thought of using it to just record short demonstrations between taking notes.

I have an iPad 2 and am a registered PearNote user. Ready to test any betas for iPad when your have them available.

I am also an iPad 2 owner and am a registered PearNote user. I'm currently using pearnote for med school. I would be willing to test betas if they become available.

I just wanted to let you know that I used Pear Note for every single lecture last year at university, and I intend to do exactly the same thing this year. Pear Note for iPad would be AWESOME.
Video recording on the iPad 2 for me would be the main reason to use it over the laptop (Mac) version as it makes much more sense to be able to use a rear-facing camera than the webcam on the laptop. I would also definitely use a bluetooth keyboard with it and a stand. A stand, iPad 2 and keyboard are still way lighter to carry around than a laptop.

Any word on if there will be a version for the iPad 2? Im going to med school in the fall and I am most certainly going to use my ipad2 for notes pear notes would be absolutely ideal for the video aspect. I have no problem taking my Bluetooth keyboard along with me. To my knowledge pear note would be the only app available that would allow video recording and note taking simultaneously on the ipad2. This app would seriously be life changing for me if it's in the works!

There will be a version for the iPad. I'm working on it now. But, as I said above, the initial version will not include video recording. I'm strongly considering adding it to an update, but I can't make any promises.

Super stoked for the iPad version c-had :)
My two cents:
•DKstud's suggestion for intermittent video clips sounds brilliant (though not necessary for 1.0)
•Complete compatibility with the desktop version (so we can view/edit/continue any notes from a laptop on an iPad and vice versa)
•Some sort of "cloud" capability to have Pear Note files created on the iPad sync with Dropbox or something
•I'd be using a bluetooth keyboard for most of note taking with Pear Note for the iPadAlso, I'd love to help with beta testing.

FYI, beta testing Pear Note for iPad should begin in a couple days. I've just sent out emails to any of you who said you were interested in beta testing. If anyone else is interested, please send me an email with the email address you'd like to receive notifications about updated betas.
Hello,
I'm writing you because you previously expressed interest in beta testing Pear Note for iPad. Pear Note for iPad is almost ready to ship, and is in need of some testing by a broader audience.
Please note that this is beta-quality software and as such is going to have bugs. As a beta tester, it will be your responsibility to report them by emailing bugs@usefulfruit.com and describing the problem with as much detail as you can. If you'd rather not deal with this, feel free to just hang on a little longer for the official release.
Also, note that this release of Pear Note is only for iPad. I had hoped to make it a universal application that would run on the iPhone/iPod Touch as well, but the schedule did not allow that for 1.0. I do plan to turn this into a universal application in a later release, but for now this will only run on an iPad.

Please, I want to test it too!!!!

I'd love to beta test the iPad version. I'm a long-time Pear Note user on the Mac - I use it several times every week to record client meetings and design sessions while taking notes. I recently got a Zagg/Logitech bluetooth keyboard for my iPad 2 and have been using it consistently to take notes during meetings when I don't need the audio recorded. I would LOVE to use Pear Note on the iPad. Some way to sync with the Mac version would be a huge feature, but not a show-stopper to start. Seems like a perfect fit for iCloud though!
If you'd like me to test, I'd be happy to provide regular feedback, etc. I'm a pretty consistent user and love the product...
