First off let me say that I absolutely PearNote as a UCLA student and find it to be a real lifesaver for note taking! I would love to use my ios device to review notes on the go, but I find that the volume is not nearly loud enough. Never had a problem while using the mac version even with tiny Macbook Air speakers- but Ipad and Iphone seem to be just too quiet. Is there anything we can do?

    Thanks!

    Hi lemarrc,

I'm sorry about that. There's no way to adjust the recording volume within the app. Obviously you can adjust the playback volume of your device (hit play then use the volume controls on the side of the phone/iPad).

Out of curiosity, are your iPhone/iPad in a case? Some cases are poorly designed and block the microphone. Does the problem persist if you remove the case?

    Hi C-had,

I have tried with both the iPhone and iPad for playback, I find the iPad to be slightly louder. To record the audio I am using the mac app, then transferring via dropbox. The mac app has a fantastic volume booster that appears to not carry over once transferred. Maybe applied during playback rather than at the file level?

Maybe I could try boosting the recording.mov file within the pear note package, saving, and then transferring? But this would add time to the transfer process.

Thanks for responding, have you had any issues while transferring recorded audio?

    Hi lemarrc,

Yes, the volume boost is applied during playback (that's why it's under the "Playback" tab) of Preferences.

You could manually boost the volume in the recording external to Pear Note as you suggested, but as you said it will be a pain. If you choose to do this, I'd suggest not digging inside the Pear Note document package. Instead, I'd export the recording as a .mov, increasing the volume in some audio editor, then import the recording back overtop. This way you don't have to deal with the possibility that Pear Note internally split the recording into multiple files.

I have to say I'm surprised simply turning up the volume is not sufficient for your purposes. The microphones on all these devices certainly are not high power, but they're usually sufficient for most uses.

I'm not sure what you mean by "issues while transferring recorded audio". If I didn't cover it, please explain what you mean.

    Thanks
